The online design and publishing platform Canva is the latest startup to enter the unicorn club. Canva raised $200 million at a $40 billion valuation.
Canva is on a mission to 'replace the PDF'. Instead of sending documents back and forth to the client, the designer can now simply create a template for the organisation, making changes with more flexibility. Through this option, Canva aims to encourage collaboration and make it smooth and easy.
Five hundred thousand teams are paying for Canva in some capacity.
2. Instagram introduces Map Search tool to enhance business discovery
Instagram's new Map Search Tool makes it easy for users to search for nearby restaurants and tourist attractions. The map search tool provides another venue for businesses to share information about what they do, in addition to tagging the location on public posts.
3. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, tested fiber-less internet in Congo
High-speed internet projects in Africa, such as Google's Taara, are making waves. Taara used wireless optical technology to send nearly 700TB of data across the Congo River over 20 days.
Project Taara is a result of the technology developed as part of the Loon project. The Loon project was an attempt to provide wireless internet using stratospheric helium balloons.
The data transfer is made possible through free-space optical communications.
